The Operation
Operation veteran vacation is a nonprofit that offers veterans and their families the opportunity to reconnect after periods of separation due to treatment for combat-related stress. O.V.V is dedicated to re-establishing and reintegrating veterans into the family unit through recreational activities such as camping and other vacations. We hope to take the pressure off of the veteran and the family through low-stress environments that allow the family to bond before returning to day-to-day life issues.

Veterans who experience struggles from military service often go through treatment for P.T.S.D and substance abuse. While engaging in these treatments they are separated from their children and significant and other. due to this separation the bonds of family have been impacted in a negative way, and although the veteran has done work on them self it can be difficult for that relationship to be mended. Although many programs offer couples and family counseling the initial reintroduction of that service member is often met with some hesitation and mistrust. This can cause the veteran to have feeling of shame, remorse and lead to depression and relapse. When veterans first get home, they can be overwhelmed with work, school and the daily grind of family life. Many scientific studies have been done on the benefits and stress relief of camping and vacations in general. O.V.V’s mission to take the stress out of the initial reentry not only with a vacation but also a financial allotment to give the veteran an opportunity to give something back to their family.

Our key assumption is that providing veteran with recreation, relaxation and time away form there daily grind will allow them to bond with there family and provide them with a more stable and caring relationships. This process will take pressure off of the family and the veteran while allowing them to reconnect.
